BETWEEN US

Power Lines is an album about the invisible forces that move through a life.

The lines between where we begin and where we arrive.
Between love and leaving.
Between memory and change.
Between the person we were and the person still waiting ahead.

These songs emerged from movement—from one country to another, one room to another, one version of life into the next. They carry the sound of distance, longing, freedom, devotion and the strange connections that only become visible when we look back.

Power Lines is not simply a collection of songs. It is one continuous emotional landscape.

02 / THE STORY

A story called

THE GREAT
LEAVING

Before the album, there was a story called The Great Leaving.

Jack is a young singer-songwriter still trying to become the artist he knows he can be. During a small living-room performance, the human audience slowly disappears. In their place, unexpected listeners begin to gather.

Through his music, Jack discovers a forgotten connection between the human world and the living world around it.

He learns of an ancient covenant:

“If it bleeds red, it is kin.”

The covenant once recognised every living being as part of one family. But over time, humanity forgot.

Now something is preparing to leave.

Jack has one night and one song to awaken what has been buried inside the human heart.

This story became part of the emotional world behind Power Lines: a meditation on memory, freedom, belonging and the invisible bond running through all life.

In a world becoming louder, faster and harder to feel, it has become critical to remember what we are standing inside of: a beautiful living planet filled with mystery, imagination and endless possibility.

We were not built only to consume and rush. We were built to notice, to wonder and to rejoice.

This album comes with a story—not as an escape from reality, but as a way back into it. It is a reminder that freedom is not only a human dream. It is a natural force moving through every living thing.

If you are like me, you probably enjoy the randomness of life. But when you look closely enough, it does not seem random at all.

It was this movement—from something appearing random to revealing a deeper connection—that inspired me to write this album.

Our lives are brief. We are fading observers, like rays of sunlight repeatedly soaking into the earth before moving towards different pastures.

Life is strange, infectious and true—a mirror that favours the skilled, creates beauty from astonishment and feeds on inspiration.

This is Power Lines.

    SONG

    Singer-songwriter, musician, producer, engineer and filmmaker—an artist whose work connects Pakistan, Los Angeles, India and Australia.

    Early life & the making of a musician

    Mahmood Khan’s relationship with music began early. In a 2020 interview, he recalled being drawn first to songs on television, then to piano and guitar at boarding school. A large record collection and an early fascination with how records were made led him toward songcraft, production and sound engineering.

    Los Angeles, recording & collaboration

    That curiosity took him to a studio job in Los Angeles, where he developed as an engineer and producer. His work later brought him into the orbit of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Khan has described the period as a formative education in Qawwali vocal practice, discipline and the musical heritage that continues to inform his own work.

    His engineering background is also documented in a 2020 Audioboom interview whose title references work connected with Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise and Vanessa Williams’ The Right Stuff.

    Pakistan, Australia & an orchestral vision

    Across Pakistan, India and Australia, Khan has pursued a world-pop language shaped by singer-songwriter craft, South Asian classical influence and contemporary production. He recorded a live project at the Sydney Opera House with a nine-piece band, an achievement he discussed in his Daily Times interview. He subsequently realised a long-held ambition to record original songs with a symphony orchestra, working with arrangers Doug Emery and David Griffin.

    Chart milestones

    Published profiles and interviews have reported notable chart results for Khan’s work: Ginoo was reported at No. 8 on Billboard’s classical-crossover chart; his orchestral album was reported as reaching No. 1 on that chart after appearing at No. 7; and Like the River was reported as a No. 1 ARIA-charting single. These achievements are presented here as reported by the linked publications and in Khan’s own interviews.

    Continuing the line

    Khan’s work remains rooted in movement—between countries, musical traditions, the studio and the stage. Power Lines carries that thread forward: an album about memory, freedom, connection and the unseen forces that shape a life.
